This Trucker Cap is crafted using vintage fabric salvaged from French military motorcycle coats dating from approximately the 1930s–1940s.
Originally issued to military dispatch riders and motorcycle units, these coats were constructed from heavy cotton canvas designed for demanding use. Its dense, rugged character pairs naturally with leather and gives the cap a presence that modern fabric cannot replicate.
Only a very small number of caps can be produced from a single coat. Decades of wear, storage, and exposure have left their mark on the fabric, creating variations in texture, color, creases, and surface character unique to each piece. It is a material shaped by time—something that cannot simply be reproduced with newly manufactured cloth.
The cap itself is based on the Trucker Cap, one of the signature styles of BRUNEL & Co. HATMAKERS.
The upper brim and top button are made from through-dyed, vegetable-tanned cowhide, with nubuck used on the underside of the brim. A cowhide leather patch embossed with the BRUNEL & Co. HATMAKERS logo is placed at the front.
The reverse side of the two front crown panels is reinforced with a traditional hair canvas made primarily from natural materials such as wool and horsehair. This helps maintain the three-dimensional shape of the crown while allowing it to gradually conform to the wearer’s head over time.
An American-style adjustable strap at the back allows for size adjustment, and the interior is finished with a fabric sweatband.
Please note that the vintage French military motorcycle coats used for these caps, including M-35 examples, naturally show signs of their previous life. Scratches, creases, stitch marks, and other traces of wear may be present. Color, texture, and overall appearance will also vary slightly from piece to piece.
The specific coat and section of fabric used for each cap cannot be selected. These variations are an inherent part of working with genuine vintage materials, and we ask that you place your order only if you are comfortable with the individual character of each piece.
